Female Drivers Not Wanted
This is a settlement for the Discrimination lawsuit.
Little Rock, AR: (Apr-01-08) Three women brought charges against BFI Waste Services, which does business as Allied Waste Services, alleging that they were discriminated against and not hired as drivers for the company. The women filed complaints with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in September 2007, and the suit against the company was filed by the EEOC on their behalf.
On being charged with the allegations, the trash hauling company denied any wrongdoing, but agreed to resolve the dispute with a $190,000 payout to the three women. Apart from the monetary payout, the company also agreed to re-train those who have contact with applicants. As part of the federal consent decree in this case, BFI will also place applications in more female-friendly areas and provide the EEOC with two reports in the coming years about its compliance.
