Racial Discrimination

This is a settlement for the Discrimination lawsuit.

Miami, FL: (Apr-03-08) The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed charges against BJ's Wholesale Club, over its Homestead store, alleging that the store created a hostile workplace when one of BJ's managers subjected a Puerto Rican employee and a black employee to offensive slurs based on race and national origin. The EEOC said that the manager was a Cuban-American.

Sources close to the case stated that the discrimination lawsuit was resolved after a court-ordered consent decree ordered BJ's to pay $100,000 to the two victims. Under the terms of the settlement agreement, the company will also adopt a new anti-harassment policy, which will be distributed to all its employees. Additionally, BJ's will train all its management and employees on federal anti-discrimination statutes, post a notice of resolution of the lawsuit, and report all discrimination complaints to the EEOC.
