Explosion Kills Two
Sioux City, IA: (Apr-08-08) The parents and three children of maintenance worker Kyle Heck, of Hornick, brought wrongful death charges against his supervisor, Mark Croghan of Sioux City, alleging that the death of their father was a result of the supervisor's negligence. Both Heck and Croghan died in a blast that occurred on Aug. 29, 2003, at an Ag Processing soybean processing plant.
Investigations revealed that the blast was caused by a buildup of hexane gas, which is used to extract oils from seeds and vegetables. The suit claimed that Croghan was negligent because he allowed Heck to work when ventilation fans and hexane gas monitors were not working.
Sources on both sides stated that the families of the 2 Ag Processing workers had reached a settlement in the case, resolving the wrongful death dispute. Both sides refused to reveal the terms of the agreement. [WHO TV NEWS: SETTLEMENT REACHES IN PLANT EXPLOSION LAWSUIT]
