Aircraft Maintenance
Purchase, NY: (Apr-11-08) The Federal Aviation Administration brought a lawsuit against air freight company, Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc., and its subsidiary Atlas Air Inc., over maintenance issues. Company spokespersons claimed that a maintenance issue in May 2006 involved a single weld to an engine exhaust nozzle on one of Atlas's 747-200 Freighter aircraft. Sources on both sides stated that the parties have reached a settlement agreement, resolving the dispute.
Under the terms of the deal, Atlas Air Inc. will pay $95,000 to the Federal Aviation Administration. In agreeing to settle, the company admitted no wrongdoing or liability and stated that it did not violate any maintenance requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration. The settlement was a move to avoid the costs and risks associated with prolonged litigation. [YAHOO BUSINESS: ATLAS AIR REACHES SETTLEMENT WITH FAA]
