Bike Rider Coverage
Madison, WI: (Apr-11-08) G. Vaughn Stone brought a lawsuit against Acuity Insurance, alleging that the insurer refused to cover liability in a bike accident. The suit claimed that Stone had insurance through Acuity when he was hit by a van while riding his bike, leaving him severely injured. Records show that as a result of the crash, Stone suffered multiple fractures and a collapsed lung. His attorneys stated that his injuries required several surgeries and lengthy rehabilitation.
The dispute stemmed from Stone and Acuity disagreeing over the level of coverage he was entitled to under his policy. In a settlement agreement reached by the two parties, the state Supreme Court ordered that the insurance company has to pay $500,000 to Stone, to resolve the lawsuit. Sources stated that Stone had already received $510,000 from the van driver and her insurer. [WKBT NEWS: WIS. SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS $500,000 SETTLEMENT IN BIKE ACCIDENT]
