Chemical Waste Violations
Bennington, VT: (Apr-14-08) The US Environmental Protection Agency brought a lawsuit against Mace Security International, a Bennington chemical company, alleging that there were environmental violations at the company's site. Mace Security is a maker of pepper sprays, tear gas and similar law enforcement products. The suit was filed following a February 2008 inspection, which revealed that there were chemical containers stored in the ground.
As part of a settlement reached in the case, Mace agreed to pay close to $365,000 to the EPA to resolve allegations. Apart from the monetary payout, the company agreed to remove potentially hazardous materials from its production site. Sources said that under the terms of the deal, the company has until the end of May 2008 to make the changes. [WCAX NEWS: CHEMICAL COMPANY PAYS DUMPING FINE]
