Drowning at Day Camp
Santa Barbara, CA: (Apr-15-08) The family of Katie Janeway, a 14 year old developmentally disabled girl, brought a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Santa Barbara, alleging that her death occurred as a result of the city's negligence. The suit claimed that in 2002, Janeway drowned in Santa Barbara's Los Banos Pool, alleging that the city failed to properly supervise the city's Summer Day Camp she was attending.
In a recent development in the case, sources close to the negotiations stated that a judge had approved a settlement between the two sides, resolving the wrongful death claims. Both, the city and the girl's family refused to divulge the terms of the settlement agreement. Records show that the case was supposed to be presented to a superior court jury, but a settlement was reached before that. [KEYT SANTA BARBARA: SETTLEMENT REACHED IN JANEWAY DEATH ]
