Fast Ferry Terminal
Rochester, NY: (Apr-23-08) The City of Rochester has been locked in a legal wrangle with Maplestar, the current operator of the Port of Rochester, in a bid to take back control of the ferry terminal. In a recent development in the case, sources stated that the two sides had reached a settlement agreement, in which the City of Rochester will pay $400,000 to Maplestar to take back control of the terminal. Records show that the two parties had an agreement previously, in which Maplestar signed a 40-year lease arrangement with Rochester. That was signed when the Fast Ferry came to town.
Under the terms of the new agreement, the city will maintain all the businesses currently at the terminal. City officials say that City control of the commercial spaces and pier creates new opportunities for use of the terminal, improves the overall development potential of the Port, and increases public access to the waterfront.
