Poor Workmanship
Allentown, PA: (Apr-29-08) The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office brought charges against Allentown Window Pros and Sunroom Pros, an Allentown contractor, accusing it of failing to complete projects on time, performing shoddy work and neglecting to inform consumers they can cancel contracts. Officials at the AG's office stated that several complaints against the home improvement business stemmed from contracts that included financing for the work. In those cases, the terms and interest rates for the financing were different than what the consumers had originally agreed to.
As part of a settlement reached in the case, Attorney General Tom Corbett stated that the dispute was resolved after Allentown Window Pros and Sunroom Pros agreed to a $180,000 payout. The deal includes $80,000 to reimburse consumers who have filed complaints. $30,000 of the settlement amount will be escrowed for other consumers who file complaints within the next 60 days. The remaining $70,000 includes civil penalties and attorney general's office costs. [THE MORNING CALL: ALLENTOWN CONTRACTOR REACHES $180,000 SETTLEMENT OVER WORK]
