Gym Class Injury

Pittsgrove, NJ: (May-06-08) An 11-year-old girl brought a lawsuit against the Pittsgrove Middle School, alleging that she suffered a foot and ankle injury in gym class, as a result of the school's negligence. The suit stated that school representatives failed to warn of the existence of danger and were inattentive in their maintenance of a running path, where the girl was injured while she was exercising.

Records of the incident show that the juvenile, whose name is being withheld, was 11 years old on Sep. 10, 2003 when the accident occurred. She had been exercising on a running path at the school, located on Almond Road. The civil suit said that the girl had fallen as a result of a hole along the path, and as a result of that, she suffered severe and painful bodily injuries to the right foot and right ankle. She had to undergo medical treatment for two years to relieve the pain. The middle school was listed in the civil action, as was the Pittsgrove Township Board of Education and the gym teacher. Debra Wible, the minor's mother, brought the suit on behalf of the minor who is now 16.

As part of a settlement agreement reached in the case, the Pittsgrove Middle School agreed to pay the girl $70,000 to resolve the personal injury claim. [EVERYTHING JERSEY: SCHOOL INJURY CLAIM SETTLED]
