Deadly Auto Accident
This is a settlement for the Car Accidents (National) lawsuit.
Newark, NJ: (May-13-08) The families of Nicole Floyd and Gail Williams brought a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Newark, after the two women drowned in 2004 when the car they were riding in drove off of Raymond Boulevard and plunged into the Passaic River. Records of the incident show that as a result of the plunge, Floyd, 34, and Gail Williams, 43, as well as another woman, Monique Hawkins, 34, drowned after their Jeep Cherokee plunged off a 15-foot embankment and into the river at Raymond Boulevard on Oct. 24, 2004. All three were from Newark.
Investigations revealed that there were no guardrails or barriers to prevent cars from going into the river along that stretch of road where the accident occurred. Witnesses said that as the car sank 35 feet, they heard cries for help, but it was impossible to save the three women, though there were some unsuccessful attempts.
Sources also said that the parties had reached a confidential settlement in the case, and that both sides refused to reveal the terms of the deal. [THE STAR LEDGER: SETTLEMENT REACHED IN SUIT OVER CAR ACCIDENT IN NEWARK]
