Minneapolis, MN: (May-14-08) The family of Randy Scott, a Minnesota man, brought a wrongful death lawsuit against former South Dakota Representative Bill Janklow, alleging that Scott died in a fatal crash with Janklow. City records show that Scott died on Aug. 16, 2003, after his Harley-Davidson struck the back of a Cadillac that Janklow drove through a stop sign at an intersection near Trent. The crash resulted in Scott's instant death, leaving Janklow injured. Court papers reveal that Scott's family sued the United States for $25 million after the US attorney in Minnesota concluded Janklow was on official business at the time of the crash. Due to these circumstances, the federal government was responsible for any financial damages.
As part of a settlement reached in the case, the wrongful death suit was resolved with a $1 million payout to the family. Marcella Scott, the mother, stated that she was relieved with the settlement, and that the family can now find closure from the legal case. [KELOLAND: JANKLOW CRASH SETTLEMENT: $1 MILLION]
