Oil Spill
Upper Dublin, PA: (May-14-08) The Upper Dublin School District brought a lawsuit against Aramark Service Master Facility Services Inc., Suburban Energy & Environmental Consultants Inc., B&E Boiler Works Inc., T/A B&E Energy Group, Boiler Erection & Repair Co., and Dynatec Process Systems Inc., in relation to the damage that resulted out of the December 2003 Jarrettown Elementary School oil spill.
The suit claimed that the 6,500-gallon heating oil spill resulted in $1.3 million in damage. Records show that due to the incident, Jarrettown Elementary School was closed for about a month and a half and students were split between Thomas Fitzwater Elementary School and Fort Washington Elementary School in December 2003 and January 2004. Board President Mike Paston stated in a prepared statement that the oil was cleaned up and the district never found out how it occurred. Jarrettown was monitored by the Environmental Protection Agency, after the incident till the present.
As part of a settlement reached between the defendants and the district, sources stated that the dispute was resolved with a $320,000 payout to the district. Additionally, Aramark will provide environmental LEED certification commissioning services valued between $265,000 and $330,000 for the construction of the new Upper Dublin High School. Officials involved with the suit said that the deal will also renew the district's Aramark agreement for custodial and technology workers.
