Boy Molested
Tampa, FL: (May-19-08) A civil lawsuit was brought against the defunct Mary Help of Christians School in Tampa, a now-closed Catholic school operated by the Eastern US Province of the Salesian Society, alleging that a student was sexually abused there. The student, known as S.A filed suit in 2005, accusing his dormitory supervisor of fondling him, performing oral sex on him and molesting him when he was a seventh-grader and altar boy.
Court records of the case's proceedings in 2007 show that the dormitory supervisor, Jorge Acosta, denied abusing S.A., but admitted to sexual contact with three other boys. The boys were about 14 years old. Records show that Acosta left the school and the clergy in 1983 and became an actor and drama coach. Following the deposition's being made public; he was fired as artistic director of the Galaxy Center for the Arts in St. Petersburg. The suit, originally seeking $5 million, reached settlement, where the allegations were resolved with an undisclosed payout. Sources stated that currently, S.A. is in his 30s and lives in TX with his wife and child. [THE TAMPA TRIBUNE: SETTLEMENT REACHED IN CATHOLIC SCHOOL ABUSE CASE]
