The Princeton Review reaches $2.6 million settlement in patent infringement case.
This is a settlement for the Trademark, Copyright, Patent lawsuit.
Portland, OR: (May-28-08) CollegeNET brought a lawsuit against The Princeton Review, alleging that it infringed on two CollegeNET patents. The suit stated that the patents in question covered key innovations in the way web-based admissions applications are serviced on behalf of colleges and universities. CollegeNET stated that the infringement took place when the Princeton Review began operation of its Embark admissions servicing unit, a unit which TPR sold in early 2007 to MRU Holdings.
As part of a settlement agreement reached between the two parties, Princeton Review publicly acknowledged resolving the litigation, agreeing to a one-time $2.6 million payment to CollegeNET. Though certain terms of the deal are confidential, a key provision that isn't calls for The Princeton Review to pay a royalty to CollegeNET should it choose to re-enter the web admissions application processing business.
