General Casualty Insurance pays $1.27 million insurance settlement in fire damage lawsuit.

Grand Blanc Township, MI: (May-29-08) Grand Blanc Court and Fitness brought a lawsuit against General Casualty Insurance based in Wisconsin, seeking compensation for their business, which was destroyed in a December 2007 fire. Records indicate that Kevin and Annette Kaczmarek, owners of Grand Blanc Court and Fitness announced plans to upgrade fitness equipment expand services and make the fitness center a 24-hour facility in August 2007. On December 19, a local police officer noticed heavy smoke coming from the building at about 11:42 p.m. The blaze went on to consume the two-story building and all of its fitness equipment. Authorities estimated damages at $1.5 million. Investigations conducted by the state revealed that the fire was intentionally set. As part of a settlement reached between the two sides, sources stated that General Casualty Insurance agreed to give the owners of Grand Blanc Court and Fitness $1.27 million to rebuild the fire damaged business.
