The Ministry of Defense agrees to pay $500,000 settlement in transgender humiliation lawsuit.
London, England: (May-24-08) Jan Hamilton, formerly known as Capt. Ian Hamilton, a British ex-military paratrooper, brought a lawsuit against the Ministry of Defense, alleging that she was humiliated when she was asked to put on a man's uniform. The paratrooper had undergone a sex change, and stated that she was seriously embarrassed when asked to show up for an April 2007 medical exam in a man's uniform. Hamilton stated that since she was living as a woman since January 2008, it was demeaning for her to show up for her medical examination dressed in a man's uniform. As part of a settlement reached in the transgender suit, the Ministry of Defense agreed to pay Hamilton nearly $500,000 in damages for humiliation, resolving the dispute. The Ministry of Defense in the News
