Katrina Victims Win Insurance Pay Out
This is a settlement for the Hurricane Damage lawsuit.
A couple who lost their retirement home and outbuildings in the catastrophic hurricane Katrina have been awarded $910,000 including $86,000 each for pain and suffering. The decision was made by a panel of jurors, and it is the maximum award their homeowner insurance policy can pay.
Earlier, the couple's insurance company denied all but $46,000 of their insurance claims.
This is the first Katrina insurance case to be heard in Jackson County, and among the first to be heard by a jury in a state court.
