Potato Chip Manufacturers Settle Cancerous Lawsuit
This is a settlement for the Food/Drinks lawsuit.
Frito-Lay, Heinz, Kettle Foods, and Lance Inc, have reached a settlement in a three-year old lawsuit filed by California's Attorney General that alleged the potato chip manufacturers did not properly warn consumers about the cancer-causing chemical acrylamide present in their chips.
The settlement involves Frito-Lay, Kettle Foods, and Lance Inc cutting the levels of acrylamide to 272 parts per billion over three years. Last week Heinz has agreed to reduce levels by 50% in their Ore-Ida frozen french fries, and pay $600,00 in costs and penalties.
The companies also agreed to pay almost $2 million in penalties and costs.
