Big Dig Tunnel Wrongful Death Suit Settled for $28 Million
This is a settlement for the Wrongful Death lawsuit.
A wrongful death suit brought by the family of a woman crushed to death when 26 tons of concrete collapsed on her car in the Big Dig tunnel in Boston, has won the case and will receive a settlement of $28 million.
The Big Dig project cost $15 billion, making it the most expensive highway project in the US. However the project saw continuous problems as a result of faulty construction. In this case the tunnel collapse was attributed to failure of adequate oversight by officials in charge, in conjunction with the wrong type of epoxy being used during construction.
Milena Del Valle was killed in the tunnel in July 2006. She is survived by her husband who escaped the incident with minor injuries, and two children.
