BP Reaches $19.5 Million Settlement in Pollution Class Action
A Madison County class action brought against BP Products North America over refinery pollution in Hartford will be settled for a reported $19.5 million.
BP is just one of the defendants named in the class action. Earlier this year Equilon, a subsidiary of Shell Oil, and former refinery owner Premcor paid $16 million to be released from the suit. The 2 remaining defendants are Apex Oil and Sinclair Oil.
If the BP settlement is approved, the oil company will pay $7,755,000 in compensation to property owners for loss of property value or damages, and a further $5,170,000 for loss of use or enjoyment.
