Insurer Settles Anorexia Class Action for $1.2 Million
This is a settlement for the Bad Faith Insurance lawsuit.
People who suffer from the eating disorder anorexia, and who had their health insurance claims denied by their insurer Horizon Blue Cross / Blue Shield of New Jersey, will receive a lump settlement of $1.2 million to end their class action.
About 500 patients brought the suit against the health insurer, alleging the company limited treatment benefits because the disorders were classified as non-biological in nature. However, the plaintiffs' attorney said that in fact anorexia and bulimia are classified as biologically based mental illnesses.
