Preliminary Settlement Reached in Hazardous Waste Suit
This is a settlement for the Environment Law lawsuit.
Residents who evacuated their homes 3 years ago following an explosion at a hazardous waste plant in Apex, NC, have reached a preliminary settlement with the owners of the EQ Plant.
The amount of the settlement is $7.85 million, which could cover the 17,000 evacuees. The settlement terms reportedly include a payment of $750 to each household forced to evacuate, and up to $2,500 for business that had to close for the 2-day period.
The EQ plant dealt with the disposal of oxygen canisters from airplanes. Two other companies were named as defendants in the class action, in addition to EQ.
