Florida State Settles with Feds over Disclosure of Personal Driver Info

This is a settlement for the lawsuit.

A $1.5 million settlement has been approved by Florida Governor Charlie Crist and the state's cabinet, which it will pay to the federal government to settle allegations that it was illegally selling Florida state drivers' personal information to businesses and individuals.

A class action suit was filed by four Florida state residents earlier this year, and in January 2009 the U.S. Justice Department sued the state and the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles over allegations that the DHSMV disclosed personal information to companies between May 13, 2003, and at least October 1, 2004. This is a violation of federal law.
