Family of Taser Victim Awarded $1.5 Million
This is a settlement for the Wrongful Death lawsuit.
The City of Oakland agreed to pay $1.5 million to the family of 20-year old Gary King Jr, who was tasered and shot to death by Oakland Police Sgt. Patrick Gonzales.
According to eyewitness the police officer grabbed King by his hair, pulled him into a headlock and punched him repeatedly before tasering him. The witnesses also contended that the young man was not holding anything when he was shot.
According to the police officer he stopped King because he thought the young man looked like a suspect in a homicide that had taken place a month earlier.
