Woman Awared $300,000 for Toe Amputation
This is a settlement for the Personal Injury lawsuit.
New York, NY: A woman who lost a toe, allegedly as the result of a podiatrist's error, has been awarded $300,000 by the jury who heard her case.
Apparently, Kathleen Groce was undergoing podiatric surgery when the surgeon applied a tourniquet to her ankles, to stem the blood flow to the feet, which would have aided surgery. However, Groce alleges that the tourniquet was not removed quickly, and consequently, she sustained ischemic damage that ultimately required the partial removal of a toe. The surgeon alleged that he did remove the tourniquet promptly, and that ischemic injury is a known risk for the surgery, not a result of surgeon error. However, the jury found in favor of Ms. Groce and awarded her damages.
