Construction Site Lawsuit Settled for $1 Million Plus
This is a settlement for the Negligence lawsuit.
Morris County, NJ: A lawsuit over construction site negligence has concluded with the family of a 23-year old man who died as a result of a workplace accident settling prior to trial for a sum reported to be over $1 million.
The lawsuit alleged that the 23-year old decedent, who was employed by his father's masonry company as a laborer, was crushed between a backhoe, operated in reverse without a spotter by the defendant general contractor, and the father's forklift. The father - who was the plaintiff in this case, witnessed the entire event.
The 23-year old suffered severe crushing and degloving injuries and underwent numerous surgeries, including skin grafts. The plaintiff maintained that his son developed abdominal compartment syndrome, that the pain and suffering during the final six and a-half months of the decedent's life was especially excruciating, and that he was kept in a medically induced coma for a significant portion of this period.
