This is a settlement for the Wrongful Death lawsuit.
Broward County, FL: A Florida jury has awarded the widow of Nathan Cohen, a long-time smoker who died of smoking-related ilnesses, a $26.6 million award, after deliberating the facts of the case for some five and a half hours.
Cohen reportedly tried may ways to quit smoking, including nicotine gum, hyponosis and anti-smoking seminars, but nothing worked and he was eventually diagnosed with lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Cohen smoked from the age of 14 until he died at age 68.
The jury found cigarette manufacturers R.J. Reynolds and Philip Morris liable for causing Cohen's lung cancer and death, and found Cohen himself one third responsible for his illness.
Phillip Morris and RJ Reynolds plan an appeal.
