Two Defendants in Accutane IBD Case Settle

This is a settlement for the Accutane lawsuit.

St. Clair County, Il: Defendants Hoffman La Roche, and Roche Laboraories have negotiated a settlement in a seven year lawsuit brought by a man who alleged he developed Accutane related inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) as a result of taking the acne medicine. The terms of the settlement are confidential.

The suit was brought by Jason Peipert who is also suing his doctor for medical malpractice. Peipert alleges that his doctor was negligent in prescribing Accutane in the late 1990s. The drug was subsequently taken off the market in the US.

This lawsuit would have been the first Accutane case to go to court, had it gone to a jury trial on its original date in 2007, however the date has been continued many times. It is currently set to go to court on April 12th.

My 21 year old grandson Tyrell Younger was in the army At Fort Leavenworth KS, Tyrell had bad acne so in April the army doctor prescribed Accutane or a generic form of it called Amnesteem (Isotretinoin). The last couple weeks before Tyrell committed suicide his friends had reported Tyrell was not acting like himself. Tyrell went to behavior health on the army base on May 30, 2019, Ty told him he was ok. That same day he bought a gun at the PX on base and early Saturday morning June 1. 2019 about 1 am he shot himself in the head. He was having delusions and hallucinations we have recently found out from the army investigator. His mom Sarah Hannett was called by the chaplain at 4 am and was told Ty had shot himself in the head and it was unrecoverable.
