Medical Malpractice Lawsuit Settled for $2.7 Million
This is a settlement for the Medical Malpractice lawsuit.
Great Neck, NY: Elysa Shatoff, who suffered a perforated small intestine as a result of a routine surgical procedure, has won her medical malpractice lawsuit with a negotiated pretrial settlement of $2.7 million.
Ms. Shatoff, 47-years old at the time of the incident, was undergoing ablation of uterine fibroids. Her physician performed a procedure using a high-intensity laser to destroy uterine fibers and was assisted by an obstetrician/gynecologist. However, he had only performed three such procedures previously.
The day following the procedure Ms. Shatoff was taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center, in New Hyde Park complaining of severe pain that stemmed from her abdomen. Doctors determined that she was suffering a perforation of her small intestine. The injury necessitated immediate surgery, but Shatoff claimed that she suffered extensive residual injuries that necessitated performance of a hysterectomy, and sued the physicians, their practices and a lengthy list of other organizations including the hospital.
