AZ Settles 200 Seroquel Suits for $2 Million
This is a settlement for the Seroquel lawsuit.
New York, NY: AstraZeneca, makers of the antipsychotic medication Seroquel, have agreed to pay $2 million to settle over 200 cases alleging the medicine causes diabetes. The settlement could mean an average payment per case of $10,000.
The settlement is the result of a US-court ordered mediation involving some 26,000 cases filed in the UK against the London-based pharmaceutical company.
AZ won the first Seroquel lawsuit to go to trial, when a jury in New Jersey ruled that the company had properly warned the patient's doctor about the risk for diabetes associated with the drug. And a further three Seroquel cases have been thrown out because the plaintiffs were unable to provide enough credible evidence to support their claims of Seroquel-generated diabetes.
