Metro Gang Strike Force to Pay Victims $3 million
This is a settlement for the Civil / Human Rights lawsuit.
The Metro Gang Strike Force in Minneapolis has agreed to a $3 million settlement for victims who claimed their rights were violated by members of the now-defunct Strike Force. The settlement will allow victims of proven Metro Gang Strike Force misconduct to submit claims seeking compensation for monetary and property losses, as well as compensation for having their civil and constitutional rights violated.
The Metro Gang Strike Force was shut down in 2009 after a Legislative Auditor's report said it had poor internal controls to track seized and forfeited property. The audit discovered missing property, cash and problems with organizational oversight of the unit. It also Investigators showed cases where people of color were unfairly and randomly targeted, and that property taken from those suspects had not yet been returned.
