Family of Car Accident Awarded $35 Million
This is a settlement for the Wrongful Death lawsuit.
Kansas City, KA: A jury has awarded the family of a woman killed in a car accident $35.25 million in compensation and damages.
Anita Gibbs was on her way to celebrate a family wedding anniversary. While stopped on Interstate 70, because of an earlier vehicle accident, a tractor-trailer slammed into the rear of her car. Gibbs was 55 years old and principal of Askew Elementary School in Kansas City. She was one of four women who died in the 2006 incident. Hers was the last wrongful death suit of the four to go to court.
The truck driver was tried in 2008 on four counts of second-degree manslaughter and found not guilty.
