Plaintiff's Complaint:
A negligent security premises liability case arising out of a violent attack at a bar in Hollywood, Florida. On October 17, 2012, Plaintiff, M. Barnes, was involved in a violent and brutal incident while he was lawfully on the premises at Princes Beach Bar, LLC d/b/a DP's. Barnes was beaten with pool cues and fists suffering blunt traumatic injuries that included a complex La Forte I fracture of his upper jaw. His injuries required multiple surgeries, were coupled with complications relating to extensive wiring and titanium hardware. Barnes incurred $96,289.00 in past medical bills following the incident. The case was tried to verdict on October 20, 2014 in Broward County, Florida. The case was tried solely against the Defendant bar operator, who was represented by counsel at Trial. The jury awarded Barnes $806,289.00, during this one day jury trial to compensate him for his past medical expenses, pain and suffering, both in the past and future, as well as his humiliation and loss of enjoyment. No wage claim or loss of earning capacity claim was presented at Trial.
