Los Angeles Water & Power Settles Billing Class Action for $36M
Cleveland, OH: A $36 million settlement has been reached in a consumer fraud class action lawsuit brought against the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The lawsuit was brought by customers who allege billing system problems. The massive billing errors stemmed from a system installed by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Filed in Los Angles court, the settlement stipulates that the utility company invest $20 million in a comprehensive overhaul of its billing system and conduct an audit of all 1.6 million customer accounts. Additionally, the city agreed to retain an independent contractor to ensure compliance.
Early this year Los Angeles sued PWC alleging hundreds of millions of dollars in damages for the errors made during the installation of the billing system.
