$255M Settlement Reached In Auto Parts Price Fixing Class Action Lawsuit
This is a settlement for the Antitrust lawsuit.
Santa Clara, CA:Auto parts manufacturer Denso Corp has agreed to pay $255 million ending allegations in an auto parts price-fixing class action lawsuit that it colluded with auto parts makers to rig bids and fix prices they charged automakers, resulting in consumers paying inflated prices for new vehicles.
The terms of the settlement stipulate that Denso will compensate car buyers roughly $193.8 million and auto dealers approximately $61.2 million. If you purchased or leased a new motor vehicle, or bought certain replacement parts for a motor vehicle in the US since 1998, you may be eligible for money from the $255 million settlement.
The massive auto parts price-fixing litigation stems from an ongoing investigation into the automotive parts industry by the US Department of Justice (DOJ). To date, that investigation has cost auto parts manufacturers more than $2 billion in fines. The Denso settlement is the latest to be reached.
According to the complaint, the price-fixing scheme allegedly involved auto parts manufacturers from all over the world, and ran more than 10 years.
Denso pled guilty and agreed to pay a $78 million fine in March 2012, following the DOJ’s investigation into its role conspiring to fix the prices of heater control panels and electric control units between 2000 and 2010. According to the settlement documents, Denso was also accused of price-fixing for automotive wire harness systems and fuel senders.
The Auto Parts Price-Fixing Class Action Lawsuit is In re: Automotive Parts Antitrust Litigation, Case No. 2:12-md-02311, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
