Nearly every year, researchers on drug company payrolls publish some ridiculous study with claims that more people may be dying from suicide due to a black box warning about an increased risk of suicide in young people on the labels of SSRI and SNRI antidepressants as a ruse to increase sales of drugs.
Judging from a new study out this month, with a June 2, 2009 headline on WebMD stating: “Are Antidepressant Warnings Causing Harm?”, apparently this year is no exception even though in the US there were 164.2 million prescriptions dispensed for antidepressants in 2008, compared to 143 million in 2004, according to IMS Health, a healthcare information company.
The study, published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, claims there has been a drastic drop in the diagnosis of depression in adults and kids.
If research were allowed to be conducted on how many suicides there are WITHOUT antidepressants, then the HARM caused by BEING ON ANTIDEPRESSANTS AND/OR FROM WITHDRAWING FROM THEM would instantly become recognizable!!!!! These sort of studies almost most make you wish other professions would be allowed to lie to the public with such impunity!!!
Stop testing for mental disorders that don't exist in the first place. Psychiatry is a hoax. Drug companies just want to make money without any technology to back their product.
Drug companies lie to make money. No child should be on a drug. Drugs don’t solve problems. They make them worse or brriefly mask the real issues.
Stop this mental screening mania of drug companies and psychiatry.
We need more research, and research specifically on drugs that help children/adolescents with mental health issues instead of increasing the risk of suicide. Mental health issues are real and the money should be there to research them just as with any other disease/syndrome.
Billions of dollars have been funneled to front groups under the guise of suicide prevention to promote the sale of the new generation of psych drugs over the past 20 years and the suicide rates have not budged beyond a few hundred up or down from year to year.
90% of the kids diagnosed with "mental disorders" are not helped by drug treatment because they are not mentally ill to begin with.
Any future government funding should go towards training enough good therapists to provide cognitive and behavioral therapy to teach kids how to change their distorted or irrational thought processes and inappropriate behaviors.
These, for the most part "learned behaviors," in children, cannot be changed by drugging them.
