LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Chicago Botanic Garden
Ellen Weber had worked less than a year in the garden's gift shop when she took off 15 weeks for medical leave. Even though she kept in regular contact with the garden regarding her treatment, when she tried to return, the Chicago Botanic Garden said they had no job position open for her. Weber suffers from multiple sclerosis and filed a complaint with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. A lawsuit found the garden's parent company, Chicago Horticultural Society, violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. Weber was awarded a $95,000 settlement for disability discrimination.
