Tylenol Recalled Due to Possible Contamination

New York, NYJohnson & Johnson's McNeil unit has announced that the company is recalling more than 55 lots of infants' and children's Tylenol products due to a possible bacterial contamination. The recall was announced because an inactive ingredient in the products did not meet internal testing requirements. Furthermore, B. cepacia bacteria were found in some raw material that was not used in the finished product.

Despite the recall, the company has said that no bacteria has been found in the finished product. Johnson & Johnson said the recall is simply precautionary.

The recalled lots were made between April and June, 2009, and include many varieties:

A different Johnson & Johnson children's product, Children's Motrin, has been linked to a risk of Stevens Johnson Syndrome, a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction to the medication.
