New York, NYSharon Wyatt, one of the stars on the soap opera General Hospital, is reportedly battling Fosamax side effects including osteonecrosis, or bone death, the New York Daily News reports.
According to the news provider, Wyatt, like a number of other patients across the country, believes that her condition stemmed from her use of Fosamax, which is prescribed to help strengthen bones.
"I just want my jaw back," Wyatt, who will undergo surgery this week, told the news source. "To tell you the truth, I like the way I look."
The news source reports that Wyatt's doctor prescribed Fosamax to her four years ago to help treat early signs of osteoporosis in her back. However, the Merck medication has been the subject of hundreds of lawsuits around the country, which claim the drug's side effects caused serious problems.
For its part, Merck, which has reportedly won three of the first four Fosamax test cases, says in a statement on its Web site that the medication has aided more than 10 million Americans whose bone mass decreases with age.
