Fosamax Central to Dental Malpractice Lawsuit

Charleston, WVA West Virginia woman is suing her dentist for dental malpractice over his alleged failure to properly inquire into her medical history, which included use of Fosamax.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">Bonnie Ford, of Jackson County, West Virginia, underwent bone replacement graft surgery with Dr. Mark W. Simpson in November 2007 to prepare her for eventual permanent dental implants, according to the West Virginia Record. In March 2008 Ford had endosseous implant surgery performed, and she had dental maintenance work done that September.

Ford claims that Simpson concealed her injuries and complications from her until October 2008, when Ford realized something was amiss.

Ford further alleges that Simpson was negligent for not inquiring about her medical history, including her use of Fosamax, a drug that is used to treat osteoporosis but has been linked to osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). ONJ is a debilitating condition that causes the jaw bone to become infected and deteriorate. A patient's use of Fosamax could be vital information for a doctor conducting oral surgery.

The plaintiff is hoping to collect compensatory and punitive damages against Simpson and Simpson Dental Associates.
