In 2004, Waterman took her mother to the hospital. "We were told that she had a cancerous fluid from head to toe," Waterman says. "It was a rare, unusual fluid that the doctors could not identify. They gave her six months to live, but she passed away in ten days." Waterman's mother died approximately a year and a half after her hernia surgery.

"I hope I can prevent this from happening to someone else," Waterman says. She has dealt with physical pain, financial hardship, the death of her mother, and having to find a new job all since having a Kugel Mesh Patch implanted in 2001. Waterman also notes that she has been in extremely poor physical health since she had her first hernia surgery.
