Safeway, Vons, Albertsons, and Ralph's
Safeway, Vons, Albertsons, and Ralph's. The nationwide supermarket chains will pay two thousand predominantly Latino janitors a settlement of $22.4 million. SEIU is the large janitor's union who filed claims; alleging unpaid overtime and denying minimum wage. Some of the janitors worked for as little as $2.47 an hour and were required to work 365 days a year. Subcontractors are hired by large chain supermarkets to hire and maintain janitorial practice, but the four companies under investigation were found to have exercised their own control over janitor working conditions.
