The fashion magazine published an article accusing filmmaker Roman Polanski of propositioning a woman while on the way to the funeral of his murdered wife, Sharon Tate. The terms of the settlement require Vanity Fair publisher Conde Nast to pay the equivalent of $300,000 of Polanski's legal costs. The 71 year old man was also awarded $87,000 for defamation.
