In the fall of 2005, David Dingwall was forced to resign from his position as the president of the Royal Canadian Mint. The Canadian Federal Government claimed Dingwall resigned as president after critics accused him of racking up exorbitant expenses, but have agreed to pay him a $417,780 settlement along with associated pension benefits and a compensation package for his forced resignation.
