Delaware County

Marissa Hurst, a female deputy for Delaware County, who began a gender discrimination suit with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, has been awarded $150, 000 in wrongful dismissal damages. Hurst alleged that Sheriff Al Myers refused her request for light duty during pregnancy and fired her in July 2004, weeks after she gave birth. The settlement calls for Hurst to withdraw her complaint and resign from her job. In exchange, she will receive the settlement amount to cover back pay, legal fees and potential future damages, as well as a reference letter from Myers that will be placed in Hurst's personal file.
