Older public employees filed a lawsuit against the state for allegedly being wrongfully denied benefits. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed the case on behalf of workers who were denied or discouraged from applying for disability payments after being injured on the job. Massachusetts has agreed to pay the employees a $1.2 million settlement for retirement system age discrimination. (May-22-06) [BOSTON GLOBE]
