EchoStar Communications

After nine years of litigation, EchoStar Communications has agreed to settle a lawsuit with ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox Affiliate Associations. EchoStar has agreed to pay the affiliate associations $100 million to protect its subscribers from potential shut off of their distant network channels. EchoStar Distant channels originate from a market outside the community in which the subscriber lives. EchoStar has about 12 million subscribers and approximately one million receive distant network channels. (Aug-28-06) [FORBES]
