The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit on behalf of African American and female applicants alleging racial and gender discrimination. The lawsuit claimed the metal manufacturing firm engaged in a pattern and practice of refusing to hire female applicants for employment because of their gender, and black applicants because of their race. A class of plaintiffs was allegedly denied non-clerical entry-level positions and semi-skilled jobs. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio Eastern Division awarded an $850,000 monetary settlement to 20 women and black applicants who sought employment since 1999 and another $90,000 to Molly Baron-Prodan.
