LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Hartlepool Borough Council
Hartlepool - Approximately 70 dinner ladies, cleaners and other lower-paid staff filed a lawsuit against the council alleging gender discrimination. Some women were being paid 70 per cent less per hour than their male counterparts dating back to 1998. An employment tribunal has awarded the women a £1 million landmark legal victory. Each woman will receive £14,300 for not being paid on a par with the council's male employees who were doing equivalent jobs. (Sep-07-06)
